FAQs

  • How to Check Power Steering Fluid?

    • Locate the power steering reservoir, confirm it’s the power steering fluid by looking at the label on the cap and take off the top;
    • If made from clear plastic, the low and full indicators on the outside of the tank will show the current fluid level. If the reservoir is metal or challenging to read, utilize the provided dipstick (usually on the underside of the cap) to inspect the level. The dipstick includes indicator lines to inform you if the fluid is low, normal, or high.

    Note – It’s recommended to check while the car has been running for a few minutes and has time to warm up. Always check levels with the engine off.

  • What are the Symptoms of a Bad Power Steering Pump?

    Like any other part, the power steering pump is prone to wear and tear. It’s crucial to diagnose and address a failing pump, as it can worsen the car’s overall handling. Any sudden changes in the steering behavior can be dangerous and put you and occupants at risk.

    Below are the most common symptoms of a bad power steering pump:

    • Squealing noise when the car starts;
    • Stiff steering wheel;
    • Loss of power;
    • Fluid leaks;
    • Metal contamination to the fluid;
    • Whining noise that tallies with engine speed.
  • What is Power Steering?

    Power steering is an advanced type of steering system in which the driver’s overall effort is reduced by an increase in the force applied on the steering wheel with the assistance of either hydraulic or electric systems.
